DESCRIPTION:

MPlayer is a FREE movie player which runs on many systems. It plays most CD/DVD, MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even H.264 movies.

Another great feature of MPlayer is the wide range of supported output drivers. It works with X11, Xv, DGA, OpenGL, SVGAlib, fbdev, AAlib, DirectFB, but you can use GGI, SDL (and this way all their drivers), VESA (on every VESA compatible card, even without X11!) and some low level card-specific drivers (for Matrox, 3Dfx and ATI), too! Most of them support software or hardware scaling, so you can enjoy movies in fullscreen. MPlayer supports displaying through some hardware MPEG decoder boards, such as the Siemens DVB, DXR2 and DXR3/Hollywood+.

MPlayer has an onscreen display (OSD) for status information, nice big antialiased shaded subtitles and visual feedback for keyboard controls. European/ISO 8859-1,2 (Hungarian, English, Czech, etc), Cyrillic and Korean fonts are supported along with 12 subtitle formats (MicroDVD, SubRip, OGM, SubViewer, Sami, VPlayer, RT, SSA, AQTitle, JACOsub, PJS and our own: MPsub). DVD subtitles (SPU streams, VOBsub and Closed Captions) are supported as well. Download it - you won't be disappointed!

When it comes to free media players, the free open-source MPlayer is one of the best out there. It won’t win any awards for its looks, but it’s a powerful and versatile player that supports an extensive variety of codecs and media formats. MPlayer can play video and audio formats such as MPEG, WMV, QuickTime, AVI, RealMedia, Matroska, AAC, MP3, FLAC, WMA, Real Audio, OGG, as well as DVD and VCD playback and streaming audio and video from Internet sources.

Originally written for Linux and created with a command line interface, the MPlayer now runs on almost any operating system and comes with a simple graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI has a user-friendly look and features the basic video and sound control buttons.

You can also control the MPlayer with a variety of keyboard shortcuts. For example, use the arrow keys to jump ahead or back in the video by 10 second, 1 minute and 10-minute intervals, the “F” key to toggle full-screen mode and the “P” key or the space bar to pause a video. Also, the mouse wheel has been given some useful functionality: it can be used to search backwards and forwards in the video. The MPlayer also features an on-screen display for status information, support for subtitles, graphical video equalizer, playlist support and more.

The MPlayer is an impressive application that offers users many options. It's not the only option for free video playback, and it’s not the prettiest looking player, but it's one of the best. It plays almost any multimedia file you can imagine. So, if you want to maximize the multimedia features of your computer, the MPlayer is exactly what you need.
